Always.

My heart is heavy today.

One of the first things I do in the morning is to turn on my cell phone and check my blog and Facebook updates. When I woke up today, I was immediately shocked to learn that beloved actor Alan Rickman has passed away.

I knew him best as Professor Severus Snape in the Harry Potter films. When I first started reading the Harry Potter books, I immediately fell in love with the dark and misunderstood Professor Snape character. While others didn’t like him in the beginning, I knew in my heart that he was my favorite character. As the sequels came out, my love for Snape only grew. And when the movies came out, I was certain that no one could do my Snape justice.

But Alan Rickman did.

He was absolutely perfect for the role; he embodied everything I had felt Snape to be when I read the books. After the movies, I loved the character even more.

I cried when Snape died. I cried when Alan Rickman died.

In tribute to this wonderful man who brought life to one of my favorite literary characters, I’ve decided to release the two Snape-centric alternate squares for the Harry Potter CAL early. They are entitled “Snape” and “Always”. You’ll be able to find them on the blog later today.

Severus Snape is a character that taught us that courage and loyalty can be found in the most unexpected places. Alan Rickman was a talented actor and a wonderful person. We will miss him, always.

  1. Thank You, I’m making the Harry Potter CAL for my daughter who also fell in love with Snape, so happy to make this blanket more special for her.
