Mini Patriot Ami

Celebrate your patriotism year-round with this adorable little doll! As part of our Mini Ami design series, this doll measures approximately 3″ tall.

Isn’t she just a cutie pie in all of that red, white and blue?

For this pattern, you will need:

  • Size D/3.25mm crochet hook
  • Worsted- or aran-weight yarn in skin tone, red, white, blue, grey and hair color
  • Polyester Fiberfill stuffing (available at most craft stores)
  • 6mm plastic safety eyes, 2 per doll (you can embroider eyes on if your prefer)
  • Crochet thread or embroidery floss in black, red, white and blue

Head

Rnd 1) In SKIN TONE, make a Magic Circle. Ch 1 and work 6 sc in the center of the Magic Circle. Join to the beginning sc of the round and ch 1. (6)

Rnd 2) *sc inc* – repeat 6 times. Join and ch 1. (12)

Rnd 3) *sc inc, sc* – repeat 6 times. Join and ch 1. (18)

Rnds 4-7) 18 sc. Join and ch 1. (18)

Insert the eyes into the 8th and 12th stitches of round 5, so that there are 3 sc stitches between the eyes.

Rnd 8) *sc dec, sc* – repeat 6 times. Join and ch 1. (12)

Carefully stuff the head, but do not overstuff!

Rnd 9) *sc dec* – repeat 6 times. Join and ch 1. (6)

Rnd 10) 6 sc. Change to RED, join and ch 1. (6)

 

Body

Rnd 11) In RED, *sc inc* ‐ repeat 6 times. Change to WHITE. Join and ch 1. (12)

Rnd 12) In WHITE, *4 sc, sc inc* ‐ repeat 2 times, then 2 sc. Change to RED. Join and ch 1. (14)

Rnd 13) In RED, 14 sc. Change to WHITE. Join and ch 1. (14)

Rnd 14) In WHITE, 14 sc. Change to RED. Join and ch 1. (14)

Rnd 15) In RED, *4 sc, sc inc* ‐ repeat 2 times, then sc inc, 3 sc. Change to GREY. Join and ch 1. (17)

Rnds 16‐18) In GREY, 17 sc. Join and ch 1. (17)

Rnd 19) In BACK LOOPS ONLY, *sc dec, sc* ‐ repeat 5 times, then sc dec. Join and ch 1. (11)

Carefully stuff the body, but do not overstuff!

Rnd 20) In BOTH LOOPS, *sc dec* ‐ repeat 5 times, then sc. Join and fasten off. (6)

Use the tail end of the yarn and a yarn needle to sew closed the opening at the base of the
body. Weave in ends.

 

Arms (Make 2)

Rnd 1) In SKIN TONE, make a Magic Circle. Ch 1 and work 5 sc in the center of the Magic Circle. Join to the beginning sc of the round and ch 1. (6)

Rnd 2) 6 sc. Join and ch 1. (6)

Rnd 3) 6 sc. Change to BLUE. Join and ch 1. (6)

Rnd 4) In BLUE, 6 sc. Join and ch 1. (6)

Rnd 5) 6 sc. Join and fasten off. (6)

Sew the arms to the doll’s body between rnds 11 and 12. Weave in ends.

 

Hair, Main Piece

Rnd 1) In HAIR COLOR, make a Magic Circle. Ch 1 and work 7 sc in the center of the Magic Circle. Join to the beginning sc of the round and ch 1. (7)

Rnd 2) *sc inc* – repeat 7 times. Join and ch 1. (14)

Rnd 3) *sc inc, sc* – repeat 7 times. Join and ch 1. (21)

Rnds 4-5) 21 sc. Join and ch 1. (21)

Rnd 6) 21 sc. Join and fasten off. (21)

Rnd 7) 7 sc, hdc, 3 dc inc, hdc, sl st, hdc, 7 sc. Fasten off. (24)

Continue to the pigtails.

 

Hair, Pigtails (Make 2)

Row 1) In HAIR COLOR, ch 4. Starting in the 2nd chain space from the hook, work 3 sc. Turn and ch 1. (3)

Rows 2-3) 3 sc. Turn and ch 1. (3)

Row 4) sc3tog. Fasten off. (3)

Sew the pigtails to either side of the main hair piece. Weave in ends.

 

Sew the hair piece to the doll’s head. Weave in ends.

Cut two strands of embroidery floss in RED, BLUE and WHITE (two strands of each color), roughly 4″ long. Arrange the strands into two sets: one set for each pigtail, each set containing one strand of each color.

Tie one set around a pigtail, making sure the ends are close to even. Repeat for the second pigtail.

Trim these decorative strands so that they are even on both sides.

 

 

Finishing Steps

Use a strand of yarn in HAIR COLOR and a yarn needle to embroider on the doll’s eyebrows. Weave in ends.

Use a strand of BLACK crochet thread and a yarn needle to embroider on the doll’s eyelashes. Weave in ends.

And there you have it! I think she’s super cute. If you like, you can use alternate hair styles (try any of our other “mini ami” patterns for ideas) or outfit combinations. Use your imagination and spread some cheerful red, white and blue!
